Get state financial aid with the WASFA: Apply now!

Financial aid is money that can help you pay for more education after high school. Financial aid can be used for college, trade school, technical school, or an approved apprenticeship. Most people file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), but not everyone is eligible. Washington offers the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) for people who do not file for federal financial aid.

Important info about the WASFA and its users:

  • You can apply or learn more online.

  • The WASFA is for people who choose not to apply for federal financial aid, and those with eligibility issues, including undocumented students.

  • Instructions and form fields on the WASFA application are written in both English and Spanish.

  • The WASFA is an application for state and institutional financial aid only.

  • State residency requirements now make it easier to get in-state tuition and state financial aid, making college or job training cost less. Many people who didn’t qualify before now do. You must meet state residency and program requirements to qualify.

  • If you have completed the FAFSA, you have already applied for federal and state financial aid. Do not complete the WASFA unless your college asks you to.

Not sure whether you should use the FAFSA or the WASFA? Learn more online.

There are affordable college and training options for everyone. The first, best step is to apply for financial aid.
