Latina Equal Pay Day 2026

October 8, 2026

Latinas deserve fair pay for the work they do. Latina Equal Pay Day recognizes their contributions and highlights a pay gap that affects families and communities.

The pay gap

Nationally, Latinas working full-time, year-round earn about 58 cents for every dollar earned by White, non-Hispanic men. When part-time and part-year workers are included, the figure is about 54.1 cents. In Washington, Latinas earn approximately 45 cents for every dollar earned by White, non-Hispanic men.

Equal Pay Day symbolizes the extra time Latinas must work to catch up with what White, non-Hispanic men earned the year before.

Why it matters

The gap does not reflect Latinas’ abilities or commitment. It reflects barriers such as discrimination, unequal access to better-paying jobs and promotions, and caregiving responsibilities. Essential work, including childcare and home care, has also been historically undervalued.

Lower pay leaves less money for housing, education, emergencies, and retirement. Over time, it makes financial security harder to reach, especially for single mothers.

How we can help

Employers: Review pay and promotion practices, share salary ranges, and support caregivers. Make it safe for employees to raise pay concerns.

Workers: Learn about your workplace rights, document your contributions, and connect with mentors and professional networks.

Communities: Support Latina-owned businesses, listen to Latina workers, and help young Latinas explore careers and leadership opportunities.

Through civic engagement, we can also encourage policymakers to strengthen equal pay protections, raise the minimum wage, and expand access to paid family, medical, sick, and safe leave.

Fair pay recognizes the value Latinas already bring to our workplaces and communities.
