LLN Lunch and Learn: Checking in During the Pandemic
Sept. 23, noon to 1 p.m. on Zoom
We care about you. How are you holding up? The LLN Executive Board is preparing a Lunch & Learn to help you check in with yourself as we connect with one another and get tips on managing stress, isolation, and teleworking from Indira Melgarejo, LLN’s Health & Wellness Chair, formerly a psychologist in Venezuela.
A survey released by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in August revealed that 41 percent of respondents reported symptoms of mental disorder, including trauma-related symptoms, depression, and anxiety. The study found a higher prevalence of symptoms of depressive disorder, suicidal thoughts, and anxiety among Hispanic respondents. (Source: ABC News)
So it is not surprising that in our own survey in June, LLN members said they are most interested in LLN activities that focus on managing stress, isolation, and teleworking. Let this lunch break be your time to briefly engage with your peers across the state enterprise and come away with vital information you can use

Board member spotlight: Veronica Hand
Veronica Hand is an Associate Chair on the LLN Board responsible for representing LLN on collaborative activities with other state business resource groups (BRGs) supported by the Office of Financial Management.
Hand recently served as a lead facilitator of an interactive, virtual gathering among BRG members and the Interagency Committee of State Employed Women (ICSEW). The event was an opportunity to share experiences and ideas across the groups on common challenges and solutions.
Over several months, Hand was LLN's point of contact and a voice for our group’s needs and interests in planning the event. The two-hour BRG-ICSEW Allyship Gathering: Lifting Every Voice held August 26 attracted more than 300 participants.
“I have enjoyed serving as a liaison for LLN because it gave me the opportunity to invite all the BRGs to start working together. That was only a year ago, and I have already made so many new connections and friends, met amazing leaders, learned so much from extraordinary colleagues and worked in great projects such as this one,” Veronica said.

Help wanted: LLN Executive Secretary
The Latino Leadership Network has been without an official Executive Secretary since the board formally adopted its bylaws and charter in January. Board Treasurer Abby Chavez has been doing both jobs.
The Executive Secretary maintains LLN’s records, documents, and minutes from business and executive board meetings. This person also:
Coordinates with the chair and vice-chair on business items for the board or executive committee agenda.
Assists the Co-Chair in scheduling meetings, tracking, and reporting progress for LLN activities.
Communicates decisions, actions, and direction to the LLN Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Why take this on? As with any role on LLN's executive board, participation expands your professional network, adds to your work skills and experience, and helps to build, connect, and inspire the Latino workforce. And we have a good time doing it! To join LLN’s board you must attend at least two board meetings and submit a letter of interest and resume to LLN@ofm.wa.gov.
